"Each second we live in a new and unique moment of the universe, a moment that was never before and will never be again. And what do we teach our children in school? We teach them that two plus two make four, and that Paris is the capital of France. When will we teach them what they are? We should say to each of them: Do you know what you are? You are a marvel. You are unique. In all of the world there has never been another child like you. And look at your body- your legs, your arms, your cunning fingers, the way you move! You may become the next Shakespeare, Michelangelo, a Beethoven. You have the capacity for anything. Yes you are a marvel. And when you grow up, can you then harm another who is, like you, a marvel? You must cherish one another. You must work- we all must work- to make this world worthy of it's children." -Pablo Casals
I LOVE this!!! I read it in a book today that I got from the library for Jude.
When we were on the way to the library, I asked Jude what kind of books he wanted to get and what he wanted to learn about because I always let him chose what he learns. He casually replied, "I want to learn about everything." My heart almost exploded with pride, joy, and satisfaction! It is amazing and humbling to have a child so eager to learn about the world and everything it has to offer and to understand that I am not his teacher but only a means to learning.
"Beginners need to know that teaching isn't a thing you do to someone else. Rather, learning is something that you MIGHT, if you're lucky, get to assist with." - Sandra Dodd
