Up to a point a man's life is shaped by environment, heredity, and movements and changes in the world about him. Then there comes a time when it lies within his grasp to shape the clay of his life into the sort of thing he wishes to be. Only the weak blame parents, their race, their times, lack of good fortune, or the quirks of fate. Everyone has it within his power to say, "This I am today; that I will be tomorrow." ~Louis L'Amour
I absolutely love this quote! One of my strongest beliefs is that we are responsible for our own lives and most of what happens to us. There's no point in sitting around blaming our misfortunes on someone or something else. People are dealt bad cards everyday whether it be a health problem or the loss of a job. I'm not saying we can control those things. What I'm saying is that all of these things are merely cards in the game of poker we call life. What matters is how we react and play these cards.
I am a positive thinker, a problem solver, a solution seeker. I don't have time to sit around and wallow in my sorrow when something bad happens and I don't expect other people to do it for me. I reserve my sympathy for tragedies. In my world, when you take a blow, you get your butt up and keep going : )
