A beautiful day at the dairy

Thought you might like to see some pictures from the dairy today :)

I don't really like waking up at 5:30 am every day but I do enjoy the sunrises.

I'd rather wear dirty jeans and rubber boots to work everyday than have to dress up!

Our dairy barn where we milk twice a day seven days a week and yes, we drink our own raw (unpasteurized) milk.

This is what we call "the pit" where we milk the cows. If you'll notice, the floor is recessed where we stand so the cows are at eye level. This makes it to where we don't have to bend down to put the milkers on the cows. We milk 12 at a time, 6 on each side.

The cows that have just been milked are walking back out into the pasture.

Love this view to the east. It always looks so pretty in the evening when the sun is setting in the west.

I love this picture!

  3. They stay with their mamas for 2-3 days to get the colostrum then we bottle feed them for another couple of months.
